Public transit ridership climbs higher, but is still below pre-pandemic levels

Ridership on Canada’s urban transit systems ticked up slightly in April 2025, compared to the same time last year. Urban transit systems across the country which include the Toronto Transit Commission, Calgary Transit, TransLink (formally known as South Coast British Columbia Transit Authority), Edmonton Transit, and the Société de transport de Montréal recorded 132.5 million passenger trips in April 2025, up 0.3%, or 400,000 trips, compared to the same period in 2024. Despite the increase, ridership is still below pre-pandemic levels. April’s figures represent about 84% of the levels recorded in April 2019 (157.3 million trips), before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, the agriculture sector in Canada employed 280,798 people, of which 79,734 or 28% were temporary foreign workers. This represents an increase of 15,085 people from the year before.
